1 Source of material
All chemicals were purchased from commercial sources and used as received. A Schlenk tube was charged with 2-methylchinolin (0.2 mmol), benzylamine (0.4 mmol), S8 (0.075 mmol), and DMSO (2 mL). Then under the protection of nitrogen atmosphere, the mixture was stirred at 140 °C for 11 h. After the completion of the reaction (monitored by TLC), the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, quenched by water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuum, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (petroleum ether/ethyl acetate) to afford the title product. Crystals were obtained by slow evaporation from dichloromethane at room temperature.
2 Experimental details
All H-atoms bonded to C atoms were placed geometrically and refined using a riding model with common isotropic displacement factors U iso(H) = 1.2 or 1.5 U eq (parent C-atom).
Thioamides are vital core structures for vital biological and pharmaceutical molecules. 5 , 6 , 7 In addtion, pyridine-2-thioamides are commonly used in the synthesis of metal complexes due to their coordination ability with sulfur and nitrogen atoms. 8 , 9 Therefore, the investigation on the crystal structures of pyridine-2-carbothioamide derivatives has received wide attention. 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 However, the crystal structure of quinoline-2-carbothioamided erivatives is less studied. 14
In the molecular structure (Figure), the dihedral angle between the almost planar quinoline ring system (N1/C1–C9) and the thioamide group (N2/C10/S1) is 13.2(2)°. Bond lengths and angles are within the normal range. 11 , 15 , 16 In the thioamide group, the bond lengths of C10–N2 and C10–S1 are 1.315(3) and 1.661(2) Å, and S1–C10–C9 angle, C9–C10–N2 angle and S1–C10–N2 angle are 121.68(17)°, 113.67(19) and 124.64(17)°, respectively. The title compound forms a 2D structure by C–H···π and C–H···S hydrogen bonds.
