Dear authors and readers,
The research of astrodynamics is the base to explore outer space, expand understanding of the earth and the universe. In the late 1950s, after some spacecraft were successfully launched, astrodynamics developed into an applied discipline closely related to engineering practice, and its research content also exceeded the scope of traditional celestial mechanics. Nowadays, astrodynamics is applied to manned spaceflight, planetary exploration, asteroid defense, solar system boundary detection, etc. And it plays an important role in commercial aerospace, navigation and communication projects, and is closely related to people’s lives.
Application requirements drive the development of astrodynamics, and the development of astrodynamics, as one of the basic disciplines, will ultimately benefit mankind. The research contents of astrodynamics include spacecraft measurement and orbital dynamics, optimal control of spacecraft orbit and attitude, space flight environment monitoring and early warning of spacecraft, spacecraft mission planning and resource scheduling, etc. Since astrodynamics is a discipline closely related to applications, to present the latest research progress in astrodynamics applications, we organize this special issue.
Sincerely,
Yu Jiang
