C7H17B5N2O10, monoclinic, P21/c (no. 14), a = 9.5108(17) Å, b = 15.659(3) Å, c = 10.356(2) Å, β = 90.367(3)°, V = 1542.2(5) Å3, Z = 4, Rgt(F) = 0.0478, wRref(F2) = 0.0893, T = 296(2) K.
The crystal structure is shown in the figure. Tables 1–3 contain details of the measurement method and a list of the atoms including atomic coordinates and displacement parameters.

All starting materials were of reagent quality and obtained from commercial sources without further purification.

The title compound was synthesized from a mixture of 0.2702 g of NH4B5O8·4H2O, 0.3092 g of H3BO3, 3.0768 g of 1-propyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([Pmim]Br) in the molar ratio of 1:5:15. The mixture was sealed in 25 mL of Teflon-lined stainless steel vessels, and heated at 453 K for about 8 days under autogenous pressure, then cooled to room temperature. The resulting columnar colorless crystals were collected and dried in air at ambient temperature.
Experimental details
Data were collected a Bruker SMART APEX CCD diffractometer. An empirical absorption correction was applied using the semi-empirical from equivalents program [6]. All hydrogen atoms were put in the calculated positions. The propyl group of the cation is disordered (only one split position is shown in the figure).
Discussion
In the past several decades, many interests have been focused on studies of borates because borate compounds have considerable mineralogical and industrial importance [1]. Templated borates are particularly attractive because they can preserve the advantages of both organic and inorganic characteristics within one molecule, which is expected to possess physical properties such as optical properties. Compared to metal borates, the syntheses of the organic base templated non metal borates are relatively less explored, though a few cases of organic base pentaborate have been reported in recent years, such as [H3N(CH2)12NH3][B5O6(OH)4]2·4H2O [2], [C6H13N2][B5O6(OH)4] [3], [(CH3)2NH2]2[B5O6(OH)4]2·[HCON(CH3)2] [4], (C5H6N)[B5O6(OH)4]·1/2C5H5N [5]. In this paper, we report the in situ syntheses and crystal structures of a organic base borates, [C7H13N2][B5O6(OH)4], which is synthesized under ionothermal conditions.
The title compound is composed of a isolated [C7H13N2]+ cation and a [B5O6(OH)4]− anion. The O—B—O bond angles ranges from 116.6(2)° to 122.7(2)° for BO3 triangles and 108.7(2)° to 11.3(2)° for BO4 tetrahedrons. The B—O bonds of the triangular borons (B1, B2, B4 and B5) vary from 1.346(2) Å to 1.385(2) Å and the angles at the tetrahedral boron (B3) vary from 1.451(2) Å to 1.479(2) Å. It is well known that multipoint hydrogen bond interactions play an important role in the formation and stability of low-dimensional structures. In the title compounds, the [B5O6(OH)4]− anions form a three-dimensional framework with channels along a. The [Pmim]+ cations are located in the channels.
