Abstract

C18H16Cl2N2O2, triclinic P1̅ (no. 2), a =8.5266(7) Å, b = 11.2217(9) Å, c = 11.5785(9) Å, α = 113.355(8)°, β = 103.305(7)°, γ = 98.461(7)°, V = 953.92(16) Å3, Rgt(F) = 0.0524, wRref(F2) = 0.1747, T = 293 K.

Source of material

The title compound was synthesized according to a reported procedure [5]. A mixture of 1,1-dimethyl-3,5-cyclohexanedione (10 mmol), 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde (10 mmol), malononitrile (10 mmol) and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) (1 mmol) in ethanol (100 mL) was refluxed for 2–3 h and then cooled to room temperature. After filtering the precipitates, they were sequentially washed with ice-cooled water and ethanol and then dried under a vacuum.

Experimental details

All hydrogen atoms were placed geometrically on calculated positions using a riding model (AFIX options 13, 23, 33, 43 or 93 of the SHELX-2008 program [6]).

Discussion

Dihydropyran and its derivatives have received considerable attention in the past few years for their versatile biological and medical activities because of different substituents on the aromatic ring leading to multiple chemical modifications, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticancer activities [1–3]. Recognizing the considerable importance of the compounds, research focused on the synthesis of dihydropyran derivatives [4].

There is one complete molecule in the asymmetric unit. All bond lengths and angles are in the expected ranges. In the crystal structure of the title compound, the new formed pyran ring is basically planar, whereas the cyclohexanonyl moiety is folded (see the figure).
