Source of material

A mixture of Pb(NO3)2 · 2H2O (0.1 mmol, 36 mg), THF (10 mL), 3-(pyrid-3′-yl)-5-(4′′-carbonylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl (0.3 mmol, 266 mg) was dissolved in 10 mL H2O. Then the solution was heated in a 23 mL Teflon lined autoclave under autogenous pressure at 393 K for 4 days. After cooling to room temperature, colourless block-shaped crystals were collected.

Experimental details

On the pyridine ring, the hydrogen atoms were assigned with Uiso = 1.2Ueq(C), and included in the final refinement by using geometrical restraints, with d(C—H) = 0.93 Å.

Discussion

Benzimidazole and its derivatives, which are one kind of important building modules of N-containing heterocyclic ring compounds, may provide supramolecular recognition sites for N—H⋯O, C–H⋯O, C—H⋯π and π−π interactions to construct supramolecular architectures. On account of its various coordination modes, multi-carboxylate ligands are extremely popular as efficient linkers in the construction of supramolecular compounds. The deprotonated analoga of the 3-(pyrid-3′-yl)-5-(4′′-carbonylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl (bta) as unsymmetrical carboxylate bridging ligands possess two or more coordination sites with differing donor abilities. Its carboxylate group can also be used as hydrogen-bond acceptor. To our knowledge, the discrete subunits or low-dimensional entities have been linked high dimensional supramolecular compounds through hydrogen bonds, π⋯π stacking and host-guest interactions [13].

The asymmetric unit of the title structure contains one Pb(II) ion, and two 3-(pyrid-3′-yl)-5-(4′′-carbonylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl dianions as bridging ligands to construct a coordination polymer (cf. figure). The lead atom is six-coordinated by four oxygen atoms and two nitrogen atoms from four ligands to give a layered structure. The Pb—O bond lengths range are 2.353(4) Å, 2.366(4) Å, 2.564(4) Å, 2.588(4) Å. The bond angles of O—Pb—O are in the range of 51.96(12)° to 114.17(14)°. There are intermolecular hydrogen bonds d(N(4)—H(4A)⋯N(6)#1) = 2.922(6) Å, d(N(7)—H(7)⋯O(1)#2) = 2.696(6) Å. Symmetry codes: #1 x, y−1, z+1; #2 −x+1, −y+1, −z. Thus these interactions result in the infinite three dimensional structute.
