Abstract
C17H13N5O3, monoclinic, P21/c (no. 14), a = 20.1049(8) Å, b = 11.1534(4) Å, c = 6.8890(3) Å, β = 97.224(2)°, V = 1532.51(11) Å3, Z = 4, Rgt(F) = = 0.0451, wRref(F2) = 0.1153, T = 100 K.

The symmetric unit of the title structure is shown in the figure. Tables 1–3 contain details of the methods used and a list of the atoms including atomic coordinates and displacement parameters.

Source of material
The synthesis of N′-(4-nitrobenzylidene)-5-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide was carried out by our reported procedure [10]. To a solution of 5-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide (1 mmol, 202 mg) in 10 mL of ethanol was added an equimolar amount of the 4-nitrobenzaldehyde in the presence of acetic acid. The mixture was maintained under reflux for 2 h. Then, the mixture was poured in cold water, and the precipitate formed was filtered out washed with ethanol. Single crystals of the title compound were obtained on slow evaporation of the solvent (DMF).
Yield: 72%; M.p. 288–290 °C (ethanol); IR (KBr, ν(cm−1)): 3225 (NH), 1669 (C = O), 1510 (N = CH); 1H-NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6, δ(ppm)): 7.27 (s, 1H, CH-pz), 7.33–7.48 (m, 5H, H—Ar), 7.95 (d, J = 8.7Hz, 2H, H—Ar), 8.27 (d, J = 8.7Hz, H—Ar), 8.63 (s, 1H, NHCO), 12.04 (s, 1H, N = CH), 13.83 (s, 1H, NH-pz); 13C-NMR (75 MHz, DMSO-d6, δ(ppm)): 103.92, 124.54, 125.85, 128.42, 128.96, 129.50, 130.35, 139.92, 141.20, 145.64, 147.23, 148.24, 158.21.; MS (ESI): m/z = 336.2 (M—H+).
Experimental details
The hydrogen atoms were placed on calculated positions with the help of the SHELX program (AFIX 43 option) [11].
Discussion
Compounds that contain the pyrazole moiety are known to exhibit a wide range of biological properties such as anticancer [1], anticonvulsant [2], antiviral [3], anti-tumor [4], analgesic, sedative [5], antimicrobial [6] and anti-inflammatory activities [7]. In addition, pyrazoles have a wide variety of application in the agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries [8]. Recently we have reported the synthesis of many substituted pyrazoles [9] and as an extension of our work on the structural characterization of pyrazoles, the title compound was prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
The unit cell of the title structure contain four molecules. The pyrazole ring (N1/N2/C7/C8/C9) makes the dihedral angles of 25.41(2)° with phenyl ring (C1—C6). The packing of the structure shows that there are five hydrogen bonds: N1—H1N1⋯O1i, C3—H3A⋯O3ii, C5—H5A⋯O1i, C8—H8A⋯N2iii and C16—H16A⋯O2iv with symmetry codes: (i) x+1, y+1/2, −z+3/2; (ii) x+1, y, z+1; (iii) −x+1, y−1/2, −z+3/2; (iv) −x, y+1/2, −z+1/2.
