About this journal
Subscribe to Open
Starting 2025, the Journal of Social Policy Research will be transferred to Gold Open Access on a year-by-year basis. All articles will thus immediately appear under the Creative Commons license CC BY. There will be no publication costs for the authors.
The Open Access transformation is based on Subscribe to Open, an alternative model that enables the full Open Access transformation of journals through the continuation of existing subscriptions. The prerequisite for successful transformation is that subscriptions are continued to the same extent as before. The editors of the Journal of Social Policy Research and the publisher De Gruyter would therefore like to thank all subscribers for their support, which has made the transformation to Open Access possible.
About this journal
The Journal of Social Policy Research (Zeitschrift für Sozialreform, ZSR), founded in 1955, publishes academic articles on social policy and the welfare state including their social impact. Contributions from the social and economic sciences and related disciplines such as law, history, philosophy and ethics are welcome. The articles published in the ZSR combine empirical findings with theoretical analyses and are characterized by diverse methodological approaches (qualitative, quantitative, policy/institutional analyses).
The range of topics covered include social security, the link between social policy and inequality, the labor market and employment, social work, pension systems and health care. Additionally, we welcome contributions on questions of governance in the welfare state and on the theory and practice of social service organizations and social infrastructure in Germany and Europe. The journal’s audience includes both academics and professionals working in social policy and administration or in social institutions. The ZSR publishes articles in German and English. It is published four times a year.
The ZSR publishes articles in thematically open issues and special issues. All articles are subject to a double-blind peer review process.
- Thematically open issues present current research on the topics of the journal. Contributions can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Submission guidelines can be found on the ZSR homepage: https://www.degruyter.com/journal/key/zsr/html
- Special issues contain thematically related articles and are coordinated by guest editors. Interested guest editors are welcome to contact the editorial team (zsr@uni-due.de) with a proposal for a special issue.
The ZSR welcomes the submission of contributions!
The ZSR offers special support for early career researchers and encourages them to submit manuscripts with innovative research results.
