Abstract

C19H18N2O4, monoclinic, P21/n (no. 14), a = 8.375(2) Å, b = 22.018(6) Å, c = 9.237(3) Å, β =  106.271 ( 3 ) , V = 1635.1(8) Å3, Z = 4, R g t (F) = 0.0427, w R r e f (F 2) = 0.1185, T = 296(2) K.

1 Source of material

2-Naphthohydrazide (10 mmol, 1.86 g) and vanillin (10 mmol, 1.52 g) were dissolved in ethanol (15 mL) and the mixture was refluxed for 4 h. The target compound (2.88 g, yield 90 %) was collected by filtration and washed with ethanol. The product was recrystallization in ethanol, and the crystals were obtained by slow evaporation within a few days.

2 Experimental details

All hydrogen atoms were identified in difference Fourier syntheses. The U iso values of the methyl groups, phenolic hydroxyl and water were set to 1.5U eq (C), and the U iso values of all other hydrogen atoms were set to 1.2U eq (C).

3 Comment

Schiff bases have a wide range of applications for example in catalytic hydrogenation, oxidation catalysts, analytical reagents, industrial dyes and so on [49].

In the crystal, the title molecule is almost planar and the dihedral angle between rings C1–C10 and C13–C18 is 1.500(7)°. The bond lengths of C(2)–C(11), C(11)–O(1), C(11)–N(1), N(1)–N(2), N(2)–C(12) and C(12)–C(13) are 1.488(3), 1.230(2), 1.341(2), 1.385(2), 1.272(2) and 1.454(3) respectively [10]. The bond angles of C(2)–C(11)–O(1), O(1)–C(11)–N(1) and C(2)–C(11)–N(1) are 121.76 ( 17 ) , 120.93 ( 17 ) and 117.30 ( 15 ) .
