Abstract

C12H25Cl3N5O8Pr, triclinic, P1̄ (no. 2), a = 9.4800(10) Å, b = 9.9591(12) Å, c = 12.4897(143) Å, α = 88.855(2)°, β = 76.897(2)°, γ = 89.182(2)°, V = 1148.2(2) Å3, Z = 2, Rgt(F) = 0.0372, wRref(F2) = 0.0918, T = 296(2) K.

Source of material

All chemicals were commercially purchased except for (E)-N′-(1-(pyrazin-2-yl)ethylidene)isonicotinohydrazide (HL) which was synthesized according to the literature [1]. A mixture of HL (0.05 mmol, 12.1 mg) and Pr(NO3)3⋅6 H2O (0.10 mmol, 43.5 mg) disolved in methanol (3 mL) and H2O (3 mL) was placed in a glass bottle (10 mL) at room temperature. Green block crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction were obtained after 3 days.

Experimental details

The hydrogen atoms were placed at calculated positions and refined as riding atoms with isotropic displacement parameters.

Comment

Hydrazones are a class of compounds which are well known for their antimicrobial activity [4]. But as hydrazones are prone to undergo degradation and bacteria can develop resistance to them, complexation of hydrazones with biocompatible metal ions is useful in this regard for long-term effectiveness [5]. In the course of studies on the chemistry of lanthanide compounds, we have prepared and characterized a number of complexes containing hydrazones. Herein we report a new Pr(III) complex.

The title complex is a mononuclear coordination compound in which the nine-coordinated Pr3+ is surrounded by six water molecules and one acylhydrazone acting as N2O donor giving a distorted monocapped square antiprism geometry (cf. the figure). The bond lengths of Pr—O and Pr—N (2.441(8)−2.717(6) Å) in the title complex are comparable with those found in our previous work [6]. In the solid state, the three dimensional supermolecule is constructed by the intermolecular O—H⋯O, O—H⋯N and O—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water molecules and the N atoms of ligand and the latice water molecules and chloride counter anions.
