Abstract
Video game localizers play a vital role in the success of video games around the world. They are responsible for adapting these software products from their original language and cultural context into new languages and for new locales. The task requires a deep understanding of the source and target cultures, as well as the ability to maintain the original intent and vision of the game’s creators. The goal of video game localization is to ensure that the game is not only accurately translated but also culturally appropriate and enjoyable for players around the world. Localization is a practice that involves a wide range of tasks, from translating text on the screen and VO dialogue, to adapting graphics. This chapter examines these tasks and explores the role of video game localizers in the gaming industry, the challenges they face and the importance of their work in bringing games to a global audience.
