Abstract

This chapter addresses translation and localization project and process management, and the roles of managers in project workflows, from various perspectives. The chapter begins by defining project management, process management and related concepts. The chapter next defines the specialization needed to estimate translation and localization scope. Discussion about the definition of scope is followed by an inventory of steps followed and resources needed as products undergoing translation and localization pass through traditional production. Finally, the chapter outlines skills needed to practice localization management, and current gaps and opportunities in the landscape, given the speed of technological (and really all) change.
