Abstract
This chapter deals with translation and interpreting from different perspectives. The first section summarises several terminological notions and definitions. The following section proposes elements of the state of the art in Translation and Interpreting Studies, focussing, among other things, on the relationship between translation and (Applied) Linguistics. The third section gives an overview of professions in the field of translation and interpreting, especially in France and other francophone countries. The last section provides a glance at the situation in other Romancespeaking countries, particularly in Italy and Spain.
