Violence and public health

Abstract

Violence is a major public health problem and in recent years has become increasingly important on the global public health agenda. This article provides an overview of the history and significance of interpersonal violence – including child maltreatment, youth violence, intimate partner violence and elder abuse – in global health and development policy, and illustrates the public health approach to violence prevention.

Zusammenfassung

In den letzten Jahren wurde Gewalt und ihre Auswirkungen zunehmend als globales Gesundheitsproblem verstanden und erhielt einen immer bedeutsameren Stellenwert auf der globalen Public Health Agenda. Der folgende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Geschichte und Bedeutung von interpersoneller Gewalt – darunter versteht man Kindesmissbrauch, Jugendgewalt, sexuelle Gewalt, häusliche Gewalt und Gewalt gegen ältere Menschen – für die globale Gesundheit und Entwicklungspolitik und zeigt auf, welchen Beitrag Public Health zur Gewaltprävention leisten kann
