Abstract

Civil society has undergone important changes in the Romanian-speaking area in the last few decades, greatly influencing both media communication and language usage in general. The aim of the present article is to illustrate in detail tendencies of linguistic change to be observed in this domain. First, it will provide a survey of the Romanian-speaking media scene, then it will focus on the changes of language usage within the media and by the media. Special attention will be paid to the issue of Anglicisms, to the influence of orality and to the relationship between prescriptive and descriptive norms.
