About this journal
Since its foundation in 1881, the ZStW has been the leading forum for the discussion of fundamental questions of criminal law and criminology. Since then, it has not only had a significant influence in practice and on academia in Germany but has also consolidated the reputation of German criminal law beyond its borders.
The German domestic section contains carefully selected essays on questions of criminal law dogmatics, criminal policy, criminal procedure law, the history of criminal law, legal philosophy and criminology. New legal developments are presented and evaluated in an overview, individual problems are examined in depth and criminal law issues are considered in the light of neighboring academic fields.
The regularly published literature reviews are of particular value. Here, leading experts critically present the latest publications in their field and thus outline current academic debates.
Important academic conferences, such as the International Criminal Law Congresses of the Association Internationale de Droit Pénal, the negotiations of the Comparative Criminal Law Section of the Society for Comparative Law, and the conferences of German criminal law teachers, are comprehensively documented through the publication of papers and discussion reports.
In the Foreign Review, the ZStW reports on current trends in criminal legislation, jurisdiction, criminal law and criminology abroad. Both German and foreign authors contribute insights and comparative articles on reforms and academic discussions in other European and non-European countries as well as on international criminal law.
