Abstract

C28H26N8O4Ni, orthorhombic, Pbcn (no. 60), a = 11.675(9) Å, b = 9.884(8) Å, c = 23.225(17) Å, V = 2680(4) Å3, Z = 4, Rgt(F) = 0.0495, wRref(F2) = 0.1329, T = 296 K.

The molecular structure is shown in the figure. Table 1 contains crystallographic data and Table 2 contains the list of the atoms including atomic coordinates and displacement parameters.

Source of material

3-Methoxy-benzoic acid hydrazide (0.166 g, 1 mmol) and 2-aceto-pyrazine (0.122 g, 1 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (20 mL). The reaction mixture was refluxed for 1 h and cooled to room temperature. Then nickel(II) acetate tetrahydrate (0.124 g, 0.5 mmol) was added. After stirring for 1 h, the mixture was filtered and set aside to crystallize for several days, giving black blocks.

Experimental details

The structure was solved by direct methods and refined with the SHELX crystallographic software package [4]. The hydrogen atoms were placed at calculated positions and refined as riding atoms with isotropic displacement parameters.

Comment

Pyrazine-contained hydrazone and their metal complexes have been widely investigated due to their excellent biological activities [5], [4], [6], [7], [8]. The title complex was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction in this work.

In the title structure, the asymmetric unit contains a half of the complex with Ni1 atom lying on the two fold rotational axis [Figure 1, symmetry code: (i) − x + 1, y, − z + 1/2]. The C=O bonds of the hydrazone ligands are enolized, as confirmed by the C—O (C7—O1) bond lengths of 1.275(4) Å [4], [6], [8]. The central Ni(II) ion with a distorted octahedral coordination geometry is surrounded by two anionic ligands with symmetry related N2O donor sets. The structure is similar as those of transition metal complexes with 2-aceto-pyrazine hydrazones [4], [6], [7], and similar crystallographic properties like the methoxy-derivative [8]. As expected, there exist no classical hydrogen bonds in the crystal.
