C15H12BrNO2, monoclinic, P21/c (no. 14), a = 11.7848(3) Å, b = 10.0857(3) Å, c = 12.2695(4) Å, β = 111.2020(10)°, Z = 4, V = 1359.61(7) Å3, Rgt(F) = 0.0306, wRref(F2) = 0.0745, T = 173(2) K.

Source of material
Synthesis of the title compound was prepared by a method reported earlier [4], [5], [6]. 3-Bromo-2-hydroxy-benzaldehyde (201.02 mg, 1 mmol) dissolved in EtOH solution (5 mL) was added to 1-(4-amino-phenyl)ethanone (135.16 mg, 1 mmol) dissolved in EtOH solution (5 mL). The solution had been stirred at 328 K for 10 h. The filtrate was recrystallized and several clear light orange crystals were obtained. Anal. Calcd. for C15H12BrNO2: C, 56.62%; H, 3.80%; N, 4.40%. Found: C, 56.85%; H, 3.97%; N, 4.12%.
Experimental details
Hydrogen atoms were placed in their geometrically idealized positions and constrained to ride on their parent atoms.
Comment
Schiff base compounds and their complexes have been the centre of attraction for many researcher in recent years [7], [8]. The Schiff base can be used as a more or less flexible ligand [9], [10]. It is usually coordinated by the O atom of the substituted phenol group and the N atom of the azomethine group to the transition metal [11], [12], [13]. We have designed and prepared another Schiff base compound, and we predict that it has useful properties and applications, for example for copper(II) complexes [14], [15], [16].
The single crystal structure of the title compound was determined by X-ray crystallography. All geometric parameters are in the typical ranges. There is a strong intramolecular O1—H1⋯N1 hydrogen bond interaction (d(N1⋯H1) = 1.823 Å, d(O1—H1) = 0.836(10) Å and d(O1⋯N1) = 2.594 Å) in the title structure (cf. the figure).
