Abstract

Besides annealing, plastic strain in a polymer can also be released partly during the sorption of a small molecule like CO2 as reported for the first time in this study. The corresponding size recovery is measured for the glassy polymer Bisphenol-A-polycarbonate in situ in a dilatometer. The plastic strain was introduced into the polymer by cold rolling with a 17% reduction in cross-section and it was observed that the strain relaxation is anisotropic, i. e., being the largest in the rolling direction.
