Abstract
Following the steps of Lisa Klocke’s paper, this study investigates the role of Henry III in the appointment of the archbishops of Cologne, Mainz and Milan. The sources of the contemporary authors are critically evaluated. Furthermore, the bishop’s biographies and careers as well as the documents provided in favour of the three archbishoprics are examined. As a result, it can be stated that Heinrich’s intervention in all investitures is probable and, sometimes, although not always, well verifiable. On the negative side, it must be pointed out that very few documents were issued by the Salian for the three archbishoprics.
