Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the use of the French go + infinitive construction (aller + infinitive) in the specific discourse type of video cooking shows. After a brief introduction and some preliminary theoretical considerations, we will focus on its pragmatic and discursive values. The study aims to show that the French aller + infinitive construction can also take on a sequentialising function in particular discursive contexts. We can assume that this value arises not so much from the temporal reading of the periphrasis (expressing future time reference) but instead can be explained by the semantics of motion inherent in the verb aller.
