Manual of Galician Linguistics
Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Manual of Galician Linguistics

Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of Galician linguistic historiography divided into four periods: 1863-1965, 1966-1985, 1986-1999, and 2000-2015. The beginning of each period is marked by the publication of a significant dictionary or grammar. Following an examination of previous historiographical works, the late appearance of the Galician linguistic tradition in the mid-nineteenth century as well as the scarcity and lack of scientific rigour of works published until a century later will be emphasised. The study of methodologies and themes was renewed at the end of the 1960s, especially through works that analyse dialect variations. Since the 1980s, the number of studies and the diversification of their content and perspectives have remained constant, although the standard variety has become the preferred subject of study. In the twenty-first century, Galician linguistics achieves certain normality in accordance with the times, and evidence of this is the creation of Internet-based databases and corpora.
