Abstract
This chapter has three purposes: to describe the present state of phraseological research on Galician, to identify the main sources of phraseological data that are available and to review some of the features of the corpus. The chapter is divided into five sections. The first is concerned with terminological matters and defining the object of study. The second discusses chief areas of research and lists some of the most significant scholars and studies in the field. The third section reviews the most important Galician phraseological dictionaries and resources. Sections four and five review two subjects that are essential to a full picture of the Galician phraseological repertory: section four identifies some of the most frequent literal referents in Galician idiomatic expressions, while section five analyses the repercussions on Galician phraseology of Spanish language contact.
