Preface of the issue of the 19th national symposium on phase diagram and materials design
The 19th national symposium on phase diagram and materials design was held on August 27–30, 2021, hosted by the Chinese Phase Diagram Committee (CPDC), and organized by the Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg) and College of Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) of Chongqing University. The conference was held parallel in two on-site venues, located in Chongqing and Guilin, and one online channel with over 1000 scholars and students from China, United States, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Japan and other countries participating. 14 plenary presentations, 142 oral talks, and 60 posters were delivered by the category of three plenary sessions of materials and metallurgy, including thermodynamics and kinetics, integrated computational materials engineering, and materials design.
The participants in this conference set a record high number in the conference series and provided a wide academic exchange platform in the materials research field. Besides the research of classical materials, thermodynamics application on energy materials, catalyst materials and functional materials, and the high-throughput intelligent methods were also extensively discussed, highlighting the current research status as well as orienting to the future.
Professor Fusheng Pan, (academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering), Professor Huaiying Zhou and Professor Guanghui Rao (Chairmen of CPDC), served as the chairpersons. Professor Yuan Yuan from Chongqing University and CCMg, and Professor Jingbo Li, Secretary of CPDC, served as chairpersons of the organizing committee for the current conference.
As the organizing committee, we are grateful to all the participants and supporters, and appreciate Professor Guido Schmitz, Professor Eric Mittemeijer, Professor Hans J. The 19th national symposium on phase diagram and materials design
Chinese phase diagram committee (CPDC): CPDC was founded in March 1978 in Nanning, P.R. China, and hosted the national symposium on phase diagram every two years to coordinate the research work of the phase diagram and related fields, to provide a platform for academic exchange and cooperation for scholars engaged in phase diagram research, material design and computational materials. In 1993, the committee became a member of the Alloy Phase Diagram International Commission (APDIC). Nowadays, the research team in the field of phase diagrams in China plays an essential role in the international field and is active in the research frontier.
Chinese national engineering research center for magnesium alloys (CCMg): CCMg was established by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China in 2007 and is located in Chongqing University. The present director is Prof. Fusheng Pan, and Prof. Wenjiang Ding (Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering) and a research team with over 200 researchers have been active in the magnesium-related research field, including classical structural materials and functional materials. International collaborations have been widely established between CCMg and institutes from Germany, Korea, USA, Japan, UK, Australia, Canada etc. CCMg also chaired the ISO TC79/SC5 (sub-technical committee of the International Standards Organization) of magnesium and magnesium alloy technology. We sincerely invite all materials experts and scholars to visit CCMg and Chongqing University.
