With a great sadness, I have to communicate to you that Professor Jun-ichi Yoshida, the president of the National Institute of Technology Suzuka College and emeritus professor of Kyoto University, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Professor Yoshida was a pioneer in many areas wherein in made seminal contributions. In particular, his work in the fields of flow chemistry and electro-organic synthesis propelled these scientific areas tremendously. Collaborators and even competitors know him as a fair and supportive colleague. His many initiatives and meetings organized by him, brought the international communities together and enabled collaborative networks.

Here, I only want to mention some chemical landmarks by his laboratory: By electrosynthesis he was able to accumulate anodically radical cations at low temperature. These cation-pools could be subsequently converted with nucleophiles in very selective manner. However, such conversions liberate an unusual high thermal heat. Consequently, he focused then on micro reactors and flow chemistry. In this area, he achieved numerous and impressive multi-step synthetic sequences.

Over past decades, we became really good friends. The chatting about chemistry and other topics while drinking a good glass of red wine or sake were inspiring and legendary. His death is a great loss for the scientific community which will miss him deartly.
