Chapter 5 When intervention is necessary to foster interaction among different speakers – language policies (and multilingualism)
-
Felipe F. Guimarães
Abstract
Concepts about language are discussed, as well as definitions about language policies (LPs), including aspects such as language ideologies, practices and intervention. The design and implementation of policies are analyzed, along with a discussion of a ‘policy cycle’ for LPs, and the inclusion of multilingualism in this design/implementation. The role of English in academia is also included in the discussions.
