Abstract

By analyzing some works of the French sociologist and intellectual Pierre Bourdieu (and others), notions of social, cultural and linguistic capital are discussed, in connection with the teaching, learning and use of languages in HEIs. The role of education institutions is also discussed, especially the concept of reproducing dominant ideas and prestigious forms of language and culture.
