Chapter 4 When universities move beyond their walls and borders – internationalization of higher education
-
Felipe F. Guimarães
Abstract
A growing trend in HEIs towards internationalization is discussed. The reasons to internationalize are varied, and they can affect institutions to increase their revenue; to develop their international profile/visibility; to attract foreign students and scholars; to develop joint research; to promote intercultural understanding, etc. Myths and misconceptions around internationalization are also discussed, along with recent trends in this field, such as Internationalization at Home (IaH), Comprehensive Internationalization and Internationalization of Curriculum (IoC).
