Abstract

The paper focuses on Adolf Reinach’s project of a phenomenological philosophy of religion, presented in his notes. It is shown how the methodology of Reinach’s program determines his attention attributed both to terms of realistic phenomenology as well as religious experience. As a result, the notion of “experience” (Erlebnis) becomes a key-term of his account. This notion can be understood in three different ways: 1) as an apology of a phenomenon as something irreducible and particular, 2) as hermeneutical interpretation of essence as a meaning, 3) as application of the term “Erlebnis” in order to stress the immediate character of religious experience. The paper reconstructs the origin of these insights in Reinach’s early works and then discusses how they are further developed in the notes. As a result it is asked whether the notes can be seen as a new strategy of interaction between philosophical and theological discourses and should be interpreted in the context of multiple forms of philosophical theology as a unique synthesis of religion and philosophy.
