Chapter 12. Building corpus-based writing aids from Spanish into English
Abstract
The internationalization of the agri-food sector in Spain has led to an exponential increase in writing and translation services from Spanish to English. In this socio-economic context, the methodology used to develop GEFEM is described. GEFEM is a corpus-based tool that assists translators and technical writers in producing dried meat product cards in English. The output offered to users is based on quantitative and qualitative corpora analysis of dried meat product cards. This corpus-based writing aid includes the prototypical rhetorical structure with the most frequent moves and steps, the main model lines, the lexicogrammatical patterns, and a bilingual terminological database.
