About this journal
Starting 2022, Nietzsche-Studien will be transferred to Diamond Open Access on a year-by-year basis. All articles will thus appear without delay under the Creative Commons license CC-BY. There will be no publication costs for the authors. The Open Access transformation is based on Subscribe-to-Open.
The prerequisite for successful transformation is that subscriptions are continued to the same extent as before. The editors of Nietzsche-Studien and the publisher De Gruyter would therefore like to thank all subscribers for their support, which has made the transformation to Open Access possible.
You can find more information about the model here.
About the YearbookFriedrich Nietzsche has emerged as one of the most important and influential modern philosophers. Nietzsche-Studien is the premier publication shaping the field of Nietzsche studies. Interdisciplinary in orientation, and with a global reach, Nietzsche-Studien reflects the entire spectrum of research on Nietzsche. As it has for more than 50 years, Nietzsche-Studien continues to set the agenda in the rapidly growing and changing field of Nietzsche scholarship. We welcome submissions from philosophy, both "analytic" and "continental", political theory, literary studies, and intellectual history. Our languages of publication are English, German, and French.
An international team of editors whose work reflects the full range of current Nietzsche scholarship builds on the existing legacy of Nietzsche-Studien and expands the global reach of the journal. The chief editors of Nietzsche-Studien are supported by an advisory board of internationally renowned scholars from eleven countries, making Nietzsche-Studien unique in its global reach.

Peer Review Policy
Nietzsche-Studien follows a double-blind peer review process:
Articles are submitted either by potential contributors directly or at the invitation of the journal editors. With the exception of commissioned book reviews and miscellaneous items that are directly reviewed by the editors, all research articles undergo a double-blind peer-review process.
- If the editors agree that a submitted research article potentially merits publication, the article enters the peer-review process.
- Research articles undergo a double-blind peer review, i.e., neither author(s) nor reviewers are aware of each other’s identities.
- Research articles are usually reviewed by two external referees. A third external referee may be included if the reports submitted by the first two referees do not allow for a decision about the publication of a research article.
- The peer review normally takes approximately four to six weeks, but in special circumstances, and depending on the volume of submissions, the allocated time can be extended.
- Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editors decide and communicate to the author(s) whether, and on which grounds, the submitted article is "accepted," requires "minor" or "major revisions," or has to be "rejected." In case revisions are necessary, all the referees’ suggestions and queries must be taken into consideration and authors must document their responses and changes.
- The editors make a final decision about the publication of every research article once all revisions have been made. The editors reserve the right to initiate an additional peer-review process if they deem necessary.
