Das MARC21-Datenformat wird aus der Sicht eines praktizierenden AACR2/MARC-Katalogisierers vorgeführt. Der Autor gibt zunächst eine allgemeine Einführung in das MARC21 Bibliographic Format. Der zweite Abschnitt der Arbeit ist der Erschließung von mehrteiligen bzw. mehrbändigen Werken gewidmet. Die Behandlung von mehrteiligen bzw. mehrbändigen Werken, in der AACR2-Welt „Analyse“ genannt, ist nämlich der Punkt, an dem die anglo-amerikanische und die deutsche Katalogisierungspraxis am weitesten auseinandergehen. Die verschiedenen Formen der „Analyse“ werden erläutert im Hinblick auf die Frage, inwiefern diese Praxen den Bedürfnissen der Benutzer gerecht werden. Auf eine kurze Behandlung der besonderen Problematik der fortlaufenden Sammelwerke folgt dann eine Einführung in das MARC21 Authorities Format für Normdatensätze. Die Rolle der verschiedenen Arten von Normdatensätzen bei der Katalogisierung wird auch besprochen. Der Aufsatz schließt mit einem Kommentar über verschiedene Aspekte der Verlinkung von Datensätzen. The MARC21 data format is presented from the point of view of a practicing AACR2/MARC cataloguer. The article begins with an introduction to the MARC21 Bibliographic Format. The next section of the article discusses the Anglo-American practice of „analysis,“ i.e. the treatment of multi-part works. The methods for representing multi-part works in the library catalogue constitute the major point of divergence between Anglo-American and German cataloguing practice. The various forms of analysis available to the Anglo-American cataloguer are discussed with reference to their capacity for satisfying the needs of the user. Certain problems involving the treatment of continuing resources in the Anglo-American and German cataloguing cultures are discussed. An introduction to the MARC21 Authorities Format is given, along with a discussion of the role of authority records in Anglo-American cataloguing practice. The article concludes with a discussion of particular issues of concern involving the linking of records. Le format de données MARC21 est présenté par un spécialiste cataloguisant avec AACR2/MARC21. L'auteur donne d'abord une introduction générale au format bibliographique MARC21. La seconde partie est consacrée au maniement des ouvrages de plusieurs volumes ou parties. Ce traitement d'ouvrages de plusieurs volumes, appelé dans le monde de l'AACR2 „analyse“, est exactement le point où les pratiques de catalogage anglo-américain et allemand différent le plus. Les différentes façons de l' „analyse“ sont expliquées sous la vue si ces pratiques correspondent aux attentes des usagers. Après un bref exposé de la problématique spéciale des périodiques suit une introduction au format d'autorité de MARC21 pour les données d'autorité. Le rôle de leurs différentes façons lors du catalogage est abordé. L'article clot avec un commentaire sur les divers aspects de liaison (linking) des notices catalographiques.

Der Bericht bietet einen Überblick und eine vorläufige Einschätzung der Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet des elektronischen Publizierens. Es werden Initiativen und Unternehmungen vorgestellt, die sich in die Aktionsfelder „neues Geschäftsmodell“, „Selbstorganisation der Wissenschaften“, „neue Kooperationsformen“ und „Kostensenkung durch Wettbewerb“ differenzieren lassen. Darüber hinaus werden neue Modelle für die Begutachtung (peer review) wissenschaftlicher Publikationen beschrieben. The report offers an overview and a preliminary estimate about developments in the field of electronic publishing. It presents initiatives and enterprises, which can be distinguished in four fields of action: „new business model“, „selforganisation of the sciences“, „new forms of cooperation“ and „cost reduction through competition“. Additionally new forms of peer review in the process of scientific communication are described Le rapport donne une vue d'ensemble et une estimation préliminaire du développement dans le domaine de la publiquation électronique. Les différentes initiatives sont présentées dans les champs d'activités „nouveau type d'affaire“, „l'organisation autonome de la science“, „nouvelle forme de coopération“ et „la réduction des coûts“. De plus de nouvelles expertises des publiquations scientiques seront décrit.

Viele Bibliotheken bieten heute ihre Kataloge und Datenbanken online an, vernachlässigen dabei aber den Bereich Informationsvermittlung. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Veränderungen in der Informationsvermittlung zu analysieren und zu beschreiben, wie neue Produkte und Dienstleistungen die Bibliothekare bei der Erfüllung neuer Aufgaben unterstützen können. Most libraries nowadays offer their catalogues or databases online, but do not adapt their reference services to the new environment. The purpose of this article is to analyse what has changed in the field of reference work and to describe how new products and services can help librarians in responding to this development. Aujourd'hui beaucoup de bibliothèques offrent leurs catalogues et banques de recherche en ligne. Pourtant, elles négligent le secteur de la médiation de l'information. L'article s'est proposé d'analyser les changements de la médiation de l'information et de démontrer les moyens que les produits et services nouveaux présentent pour assister les bibliothécaires à l'accomplissement des tâches nouvelles.

Nutzerbefragungen sind mittlerweile ein fester Bestandteil des Qualitätsmanagements in Hochschulbibliotheken. Gegenüber den bisher vorrangig eingesetzten Vor-Ort-Befragungen der Bibliotheksbesucher bietet die postalische Befragung ein hohes Maß an Repräsentativität ihrer Ergebnisse, da auch Selten- und Nicht-Nutzer erfasst werden sowie diejenigen Nutzer, die primär die webbasierten Angebote der Bibliothek wahrnehmen. Die Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen hat im Sommer 2003 eine postalische Nutzerbefragung auf der Grundlage einer Stichprobe von 4 000 Studierenden und Wissenschaftlern durchgeführt. Der Beitrag erläutert das methodische Vorgehen der Befragung, stellt ausgewählte Resultate insbesondere bezogen auf die Nutzung digitaler Angebote und Dienste dar und beschreibt die aus den Umfrageergebnissen gezogenen Konsequenzen. User surveys are by now a permanent component of Quality Management in university libraries. Compared with the formerly predominant method of placing surveys in the location, the mail survey offers a high measure of representativity of results because those who seldom or never use the library, as well as those users who primarily take advantage of the web-based offerings of the library, are also surveyed. The Göttingen State and University Library (Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen) conducted a mail user survey of 4 000 students and faculty members in Summer 2003. The article explains the methodology of the survey, presents selected results particularly relevant to the use of digital resources and services, and describes the consequences of the survey's findings. Les enquêtes d'usagers appartiennent entre-temps régulièrement à la gestion qualitative des bibliothèques de l'enseignement supérieur. A l'opposite des interrogations sur place des lecteurs préférées jusqu'alors, l'enquête par courrier postal offre un haut degré de resprésentativité des conclusions parce qu'elle saisit et des usagers fréquentant la bibliothèque rarement ou pas du tout et ceux qui se limitent aux services électroniques. La Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen a entrepris une enquête par courrier postal auprès de 4 000 étudiants et du corps enseignant en été 2003. L'article explique les méthodes du procédé de l'enquête, présente des résultats choisis, notamment concernant l'utilisation des services électroniques et décrit les conséquences tirées de l'enquête.

Eine Bibliothek nur über Eisen? Ja, und noch viel mehr! Die Eisenbibliothek, eine Stiftung des Industriekonzerns Georg Fischer AG, Schaffhausen, ist seit ihrer Gründung 1948 eine internationale Begegnungsstätte zur technikgeschichtlichen Forschung. Sie nimmt im Kreis der wissenschaftlichen und technischen Bibliotheken weltweit eine herausragende Stellung ein. Im Klostergut Paradies nahe Schaffhausen bietet die Sammlung bibliophile Kostbarkeiten aus alter und neuer Zeit. Die grundlegenden Werke der europäischen Eisenliteratur sind hier zu finden, und das Einzugsgebiet dieser Spezialbibliothek ist buchstäblich grenzenlos: Bücher zum Werkstoff Eisen und den damit verbundenen Wissensgebieten aus vielen Ländern und in zahlreichen Sprachen stehen zur unentgeltlichen Nutzung bereit. A library that deals only with iron? That's right – and there is much more! The Iron Library, a foundation of the technology company Georg Fischer Ltd., Schaffhausen, has been an international forum for research in technological history since it was founded in 1948. The library ranks highly among scientific and technical libraries around the world. Located in the former Clarissan convent called „Paradies“ near Schaffhausen, the library's collection offers treasured editions from former and contemporary times. The primary works of European literature on iron can be found in this special reference library, which is a literally endless source of information: books on the material of iron and related fields of knowledge from many countries and in numerous languages are available free of charge. Une bibliothèque s'occupant uniquement du fer ? Oui, et beaucoup plus ! La Bibliothèque du fer, une fondation de la compagnie Georg Fischer AG, Schaffhausen, est dès sa création en 1948 un lieu de rencontre international sur la recherche de l'histoire technique. Dans le cadre des bibliothèques de recherche et de technique elle tient un rang élevé. Située dans le monastère du Paradis près de Schaffhausen elle offre une collection de trésors bibliophiles des temps passés et des temps modernes. Les œuvres fondamentaux de la littérature européenne sur le fer s'y trouve. Les ouvrages sur le fer et le savoir de beaucoup de pays et de langues y sont disponibles gratuitement.

Im Rahmen der Ausbildung für den gehobenen Dienst an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken von Studierenden der Bayerischen Beamtenfachhochschule wurde eine Bibliographie zur zweiten Ausgabe der AACR erstellt (vgl. dazu allgemein Popst , Hans : Erstellung von Bibliographien im Rahmen der Ausbildung für den gehobenen Bibliotheksdienst. Bildungs- wie bibliothekspolitische Initiativen propagieren die Vermittlung und weitergehende Verankerung von Informationskompetenz im universitären Bereich. Die Universitätsbibliotheken haben in ihrem Programm bereits eine Reihe entsprechender, lokal z.T. recht unterschiedlicher Angebote, deren Facetten auch im Hinblick auf das Verhältnis zu den Öffentlichen Bibliotheken beleuchtet und auch kritisch hinterfragt werden. Various initiatives in educational and library policy try to enhance information literacy in the universities. For the long term, it will have to become a part of curricula. University libraries have made several diverse attempts to improve the information literacy of their clientele. A critical look is taken at the many facets of approaches, including the relationships between academic and public libraries. Divers initiatives de la politique d'éducation et des bibliothèques essaient d'améliorer et d'enraciner les compétences d'information dans le secteur universitaire. Ainsi les bibliothèques universitaires ont lancé des offres divers pour augmenter ces compétences de leur clientèle. On prend une vue critique aux facettes multiples d'approches, y inclus les relations entre les bibliothèques publiques et ceux de l'enseignement supérieur.

Die Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel fördert seit 1983 als erste kulturelle Einrichtung Niedersachsens mit einem spezifischen pädagogischen Programm die Lesekultur junger Menschen. Im Rahmen der seit 1997 vom Land Niedersachsen institutionalisierten „Wolfenbütteler Schülerseminaren“ arbeiten Schülerinnen und Schüler der gymnasialen Oberstufe mehrere Tage in der Bibliothek, indem sie Themen des Unterrichts vertiefen und erweitern. Durch die weitgehend selbständige Forschungstätigkeit, von Gymnasiallehrern in der Bibliothek vorbereitet und begleitet, erlernen sie den Apparat einer modernen wissenschaftlichen Bibliothek zu nutzen. Since 1983, the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel (Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel) has been promoting the reading culture of young people through a specific educational programme. The library was the first of Lower Saxony's cultural institutions to do this. Within the framework of the „Wolfenbütteler Schülerseminare (Wolfenbüttel Pupils' Seminars)“, which were institutionalised by Lower Saxony in 1997, senior pupils at Grammar school spend several days working in the library on themes arising from school lessons. In the course of this mainly independent study, prepared by and under the supervision of teachers in the library, pupils become familiar with the functions and facilities of a modern academic library. La bibliothèque Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel encourage depuis 1983 en tant que première institution culturelle de Niedersachsen (Basse Saxe), la culture de la lecture des jeunes avec un programme pédagogique spécifique. Dans le cadre des „Wolfenbütteler Schülerseminare (Seminaires pour élèves)“ institués en 1997 par le pays de Niedersachsen (Basse Saxe), des élèves des classes lycéennes supérieures travaillent plusieurs jours à la bibliothèque pour approfondir et développer les thèmes scolaires. Les activités de recherches, qui sont préparées et accompagnées par des professeurs à la bibliothèque, sont en grande partie réalisées indépendamment et ainsi les élèves apprennent à utiliser l'équipement d'une bibliothèque scientifique moderne.

Die Vermittlung von Medien- und Informationskompetenz gehört zu den wichtigen Zielen schulischer Ausbildung. Deshalb ist es sinnvoll, SchülerInnen schrittweise an die Nutzung von wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken heranzuführen. Dazu bedarf es entsprechender bibliotheksdidaktischer Modelle. Das von Grazer Gymnasiallehrerinnen gemeinsam mit der Universitätsbibliothek Graz entwickelte Konzept entlastet die Bibliothek und sichert den Unterrichtsertrag. Exemplarisch wird ein mit einer 10. Schulstufe durchgeführtes Projekt vorgestellt. Teaching media and information competence is one of the most important goals of formal education. Therefore it is crucial to introduce students to using university and other advanced libraries step by step. This process relies on library-specific didactic models. The didactic concept developed by high school teachers together with the university library manages to take the pressure off the library and to ensure successful learning. A project with a 10th grade serves as an example. Un des objectifs les plus importants de l'éducation scolaire est sans doute la transmission des compétences dans la manipulation des médias et des informations. C'est pourquoi il semble nécessaire que les élèves apprennent progressivement à utiliser les bibliothèques scientifiques. Pour atteindre ce but nous avons besoin de modèles didactiques applicables aux bibliothèques. En collaboration avec la bibliothèque universitaire de Graz, des professeurs de lycée de Graz ont élaboré un programme qui décharge la bibliothèque et assure le bénéfice de l'enseignement. Nous présentons ce modèle à l'instar d'un projet réalisé avec une classe de la dixième année scolaire.
