Hat Papstgeschichte Zukunft?

Riassunto:
Sembra che almeno in Germania si stia esaurendo l’attività editoriale che riguarda i rapporti mandati dai nunzi alla segreteria di Stato. Nella digitalizzazione delle fonti si può ravvisare una valida alternativa compensatoria, tanto più che essa consentirebbe di creare una vasta banca dati che, raccogliendo i dati di tutte le persone e tutti gli uffici della curia, offrirebbe un’ottima base per ulteriori ricerche. In ogni caso è possibile raccordare la storia dei papi al nuovo approccio decostruttivista della storia politica e culturale, se si pone al centro dell’attenzione il papato nella sua qualità di singolare potenza culturale che coltiva una sua singolare cultura del potere. Decisiva è la constatazione che la chiesa papale non solo funse da modello per la formazione degli Stati europei, ma sarebbe diventata Stato essa stessa. In questo senso sarebbero auspicabili studi a lungo termine sul personale e sulle istituzioni. Accanto a questa storia materiale sarebbero utili sia l’indagine della devozione personale dei papi, e in particolare del culto mariano, che l’esplorazione del culto del papa e di altre pratiche premoderne, ma tuttora vive, nei credenti.
Abstract:
At least in Germany, it seems that publication of the reports sent by nuncios to the Secretariat of State is coming to an end. Digitizing the sources may represent a valid alternative to compensate for this lack, the more so as it offers the potential for creating a vast database containing data on all the people and offices of the curia, which would thus be an excellent starting point for further research. In any case, we can connect the history of the Popes to the new deconstructivist approach in political and cultural history if we focus on the Papacy as a peculiar cultural power that cultivated its own unusual culture of power. A crucial consideration is that the Papal church not only acted as a model for the formation of the European states, but became a state itself. As such, it is to be hoped that long-term studies will be undertaken of its staff and institutions. Alongside this material history, it would be helpful to investigate the personal devotion of the Popes and in particular the Marian cult, and to explore the cult of the Pope and other pre-modern but still extant practices among the faithful.
