Soziale Ungleichheit und Gesundheit/Krankheit: Zwei Forschungslinien

Zusammenfassung
Gesundheitliche Ungleichheiten sind sowohl in nationalen als auch in internationalen Studien ein robuster empirischer Befund. Als Merkmale sozialer Differenzierung werden Schulbildung, Berufsposition und Einkommen verwendet, zusätzlich werden Effekte des Vermögens betrachtet. Neuere europäische Studien zeigen, dass sich gesundheitliche Ungleichheiten vor dem Hintergrund verbesserter Bevölkerungsgesundheit eher vergrößert als verkleinert haben. Ein neuer und interdisziplinärer Zweig der Forschung beschäftigt sich mit frühen Einflüssen sozialer Faktoren auf die Gesundheit im frühen und mittleren Lebensalter. In diesem Bereich sind in den kommenden Jahren die meisten Fortschritte zu erwarten.
Abstract
Social inequalities in health are a robust finding from national and from international studies. Social differentiation is usually depicted by education, occupational position, and income. Recent studies also considered wealth as relevant indicator. Against the backdrop of improved population health, European studies have shown that social gradients in health have rather widened than narrowed. A new and interdisciplinary line of inequality research deals with effects of social factors occurring early in life on health in early years and in midlife. In this area, significant new findings will be expected in the years to come.
