13 An Analysis of MSMEs’ Contributions to the Promotion of SDGs in India
-
Shefali Saluja
Abstract
Responsible and sustainable consumerism is everyone’s business in today’s world. No organization can ignore the environmental problems that impact us all in the face of growing worries over climate change and energy security. Micro, Small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) are crucial to the nation’s growth. Sustainable development may be attained through socially conscious businesses and innovative MSMEs led by entrepreneurs who follow 21st-century’s viewpoints and recommendations and produce new eco-friendly technology that could replenish natural resources. MSMEs can build the foundation for regional, national, and global sustainability initiatives. To successfully incorporate sustainability concepts and practices into their corporate cultures, MSMEs must understand the new opportunities and how they apply them. This chapter presents a rationale for implementing the principles of sustainable development and demonstrates how MSMEs may support it. It shows that it takes changing regulations and systemic changes in how financial markets and institutions function to fully realize the promise of MSMEs for the SDGs. This would ease the barriers that MSMEs must overcome to access financial resources and help turn informal MSMEs into formal ones. And this would have several far-reaching effects, opening more funding sources, boosting extra economic growth, and creating more job prospects.
