This chapter is in the book Textile Engineering

Abstract

Textile is one of the most significant economic sectors in the current era, and a major portion of the population is engaged in its supply stream to a certain level. Consequently, keeping up to date on its functionality, faults, and advancements is exceptionally critical. Furthermore, with a high quantity of resource utilization and waste creation, the textile and garment sectors have significant environmental implications from the fiber manufacturing phase through the disposal point throughout the life span. This chapter presents a life cycle evaluation of the products and operations embroiled in the textile value stream, for example, textile waste reduction, regeneration, and recycling at various degrees, and critical issues involved in the life cycle methodologies. This chapter further examines the environmental consequences of the clothing and garment industries and provides the future trends, pros and cons of textile recycling, and conservation-related opinions of resources such as water, energy, and textile chemicals at various levels.
