The Epistle of Barnabas, Jews and Christians

Abstract
Ein Merkmal des Barnabasbriefes, einer Schrift, die zu den sogenannten Apostolischen Vätern gerechnet wird, ist die - zumeist polemische - Beschäftigung mit jüdischen Themen. Allerdings verwendet der Verfasser die griechischen Begriffe für ‚Juden‘ und ‚Judentum‘ an keiner Stelle. Vor dem Hintergrund der neueren Kritik an den Grundannahmen des “Parting of the Ways”-Paradigmas untersucht der Aufsatz verschiedene Ansätze zum Verständnis der spezifischen Sicht des Barnabasbriefes auf die Juden. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird dabei der Vorstellung gewidmet, der Brief versuche, eine Trennung zwischen Juden und Christen in einer Situation zu konstruieren, in der es gar keine Juden gibt. Angesichts nur sehr spärlicher Informationen zum historischen Kontext des Briefes erscheint es allerdings unmöglich festzustellen, warum der Autor eine solche Position gegenüber denen einnimmt, die er nirgendwo als ‚Juden‘ bezeichnet.
