Ioudaismos, Christianismos and the Parting of the Ways

Abstract
In den Diskussionen über das Modell des “Parting of the Ways” wurde den Begriffen Ioudaismos und Christianismos in der Regel wenig Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet. Ioudaismos ist dabei der ältere Begriff, der sich allmählich von der Charakterisierung einer bestimmten Form judäischer Lebensweise zu einer statischeren Bedeutung entwickelte, die dem modernen Begriff “Judentum” näherkommt. Allerdings wurde der Begriff in jüdischen und christlichen Kreisen unterschiedlich aufgefasst. Christianismos wurde, wahrscheinlich von Marcion, als Gegensatz zu Ioudaismos geprägt, allerdings auf der Grundlage des Begriffs Christianos/us, der seinen Ursprung wahrscheinlich in Rom hat. Im Osten wird Christianismos bis heute verwendet, im Westen wurde der Begriff jedoch bald durch Christianitas ersetzt. Diese Bedeutungsverschiebungen lassen sich nicht vom Prozess des “Parting of the Ways” trennen, aber sie wurden auch von den politischen Entwicklungen im Römischen Reich beeinflusst.
