Abstract
Cobalt-doped CdS nanocrystals (CdS:Co NCs) were synthesized using a rapid microwave activated method. CdSO4 and Na2S2O3 were used as the precursors and Co(NO3)2 was the source of impurity. Thioglycolic acid was used as the capping agent and the catalyst of the reaction. The structure and optical properties of the NCs were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV–visible and photoluminescence analyses. NCs had a hexagonal structure, forming round particles with a size of mostly about 3 nm. The band gap of NCs was obtained as about 3.18 eV. Synthesized NCs exhibited white emission between 400–750 nm with a peak located at about 505 nm.
