Objective
Zeitschrift für Kristallographie – Crystalline Materials was founded in 1877 by Paul von Groth and is today one of the world’s oldest scientific journals. It offers a place for researchers to present results of their theoretical experimental crystallographic studies. The journal presents significant results on structures and on properties of organic/inorganic substances with crystalline character, periodically ordered, modulated or quasicrystalline on static and dynamic phenomena applying the various methods of diffraction, spectroscopy and microscopy.

Aluminum-rich cage compounds AT₂Al₂₀ (A = Sr, Eu; T = Ti, V)

The CeCr 2 Al 20 -type (space group Fd 3− m ) aluminum-rich intermetallic compounds AT 2 Al 20 ( A = Sr, Eu; T = Ti, V) were synthesized from the elements in alumina crucibles within evacuated sealed silica ampoules and characterized through X-ray powder patterns. SrTi 2 Al 20 ( a = 1,475.25(6) pm) and SrV 2 Al 20 ( a = 1,459.81(8) pm) are the first strontium-based aluminides with CeCr 2 Al 20 -type structure. The structures of Sr 0.836(2) V 2 Al 20 , Sr 0.961(1) V 2 Al 20 and Eu 0.964(2) V 2 Al 20 were refined from single crystal X-ray diffractometer data. Refinements of the occupancy parameters revealed defect formation on the 8 a sites. In the strontium series, the lattice parameter scales with the occupancy parameter. Temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility data for the SrTi 2 Al 20 and SrV 2 Al 20 samples show diamagnetic and Pauli paramagnetic behavior, respectively.

The solubility of indium in the gallides RE NiGa 4 (YNiAl 4 type structure, RE = Y, Gd, Tb) at 870 K and the unit cell parameters of the solid solutions were determined. The crystal structure of TbNiGa 3.17 In 0.83 (space group Cmcm , oS 24, a = 0.41529(2) nm, b = 1.55140(8) nm, c = 0.66136(4) nm, R 1 = 0.0162, w R 2 = 0.0280, 500 F 2 values, 25 variables) was refined from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The TbNiGa 4– x In x samples were characterized for their magnetic properties. They were found to order antiferromagnetically below the Néel temperature T N = 20 K, independent of x spanning from 0 to 0.5.

Synthesis, structure and fluorescence of three novel Ln(III) polymers based on a semi-rigid tetracarboxylic acid

Three novel Ln(III) polymers based on a same semi-rigid tetracarboxylic acid H 4 BTMIPA (5,5′-methylenebis(2,4,6-trimethylisophthalic acid)), namely [Gd(HBTMIPA)(H 2 O) 2 OH]H 2 O (1), [H 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 ][Gd(H 2 O) 2 (BTMIPA)]2H 2 O(2), [H 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 ][Sm(H 2 O) 2 (BTMIPA)]2H 2 O(3) (H 4 BTMIPA=(5,5′-methylenebis (2,4,6-trimethylisophthalic acid)) were synthesized by regulating the preparation method and metal center. All three complexes feature a nine-coordinate metal center but exhibit distinct structures. Complex 1, obtained via biphasic solvothermal reaction, is constructed by HBTMIPA ligands linking three Gd 3+ ions through chelating carboxylate groups, forming 1D wavy chains. These chains further assemble into 2D layers and eventually a 3D supramolecular structure with helical characteristics via hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 and 3 are isostructural which prepared by solvothermal reaction, form 3D supramolecular structures with 1D channels. Their IR spectra, PXRD, thermal stability and photoluminescence properties were investigated. This work demonstrates that the biphasic solvothermal method enables the generation of novel frameworks with unique structures, providing insights for developing new Ln-MOFs.
