The article proposes a typology of the forms of dialogue, which is influenced by Schleiermacher's triadic subdivision and distinguishes dialogues oriented toward agreement of wills, dialogues experienced as ends in themselves, and dialogues oriented toward agreement on truth. Each of these three types has different success criteria; particularly I show why Grice's maxims of conversation are not valid for all dialogues: In conversations, for example, irony is legitimate and enriching. The general reflections are then applied to the specific case of the intercultural dialogue.

This paper offers a close reading of the Muslim theologian Najm al-Dīn al-Ṭūfī’s (d. 716/1316) five treatises in which he describes Jesus in angelic terms, asserting that in his nature Jesus was an angel, but in form a human being. It also provides a thorough analysis of Ṭūfī’s scriptural arguments for the notion of an angelic Jesus. The question of his possible sources is further addressed. Are there any Christian writings that describe Jesus in angelic terms? If so, how do they relate to Ṭūfī’s ‘angel-natured Jesus’? Pointing out a number of early Christian textual traditions that clearly bear marks of the notion of an angelic Jesus, the paper then sheds light upon those sources that may have led to a milieu that ultimately influenced Ṭūfī’s opinion. Ṭūfī’s reference to an angelic Jesus and his willingness to incorporate it into his own Christology suggest that at least some features of angel Christology must have been still ‘in the air’ in the early 14 th century Egyptian context.

If God is eternal, he is immutable and his relationship with the world is without change. Luther and Kierkegaard agree that this is the case, but disagree whether the idea of necessity adequately captures God’s relationship with the world. Luther inherits the idea of necessity from the Scholastics, but rejects their distinction between absolute and conditional necessity. We can only trust God’s promises if there from God’s point of view are no contingencies. For Kierkegaard, the idea of necessity is determined by Kant’s understanding of reality as experience limited by what is possible according to the criteria of rationality. Kierkegaard finds this understanding insufficient, as it excludes the possibility of the infinite. In spite of differences of terminology caused by the differing contexts they had to address, there is thus a significant parallel between Luther and Kierkegaard in that they both criticize their contemporaries for having a deficient understanding of divine difference.

Zusammenfassung Dieser Beitrag enthält einige Neuerungen in der wissenschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung zwischen naturwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis, philosophischem Anspruch und mathematischen Möglichkeiten des Existenzbeweises einer gottähnlichen Entität (Gödel: God-like being). Nach ausführlicher Diskussion des Ausbleibens der Notwendigkeit einer göttlichen Existenz in der Evolution und des parallel dazu entstehenden Bedürfnisses der Soziologien nach Transzendenz werden die Begriffe Materie, Geist und Denken von verschiedenen philosophischen Ansätzen her beleuchtet, um dann in einem mathematischen Konstrukt einen Gottesgedanken zu formulieren. Aufbauend auf dem Gödel’schen Gottesbeweis von 1970, veröffentlicht 1987 und bewiesen 2013, wird eine weitere Eigenschaft dieser Entität, nämlich die Unendlich-Dimensionalität, mit Hilfe der Topologie gezeigt. Der mathematische Beweis ist in den Wissenschaftlichen Beiträgen 2017 der Technischen Hochschule Wildau veröffentlicht worden.

“Religion is natural” has become a common thesis in Cognitive Science of Religion (CSR). The claim, however, is often ambiguous. This paper seeks to clarify and evaluate the naturalness of religion thesis that flows from CSR theories pointing to the optimal compatibility between recurrent religious concepts and the ordinary operations of the human mind. For the naturalness thesis to be scientifically valid, some criteria for naturalness are needed. Robert McCauley has suggested four typical marks for natural cognitive systems, but his account suffers from the inability to point to any causal operations in human development responsible for the naturalness of religion. Even if naturalness is a problematic concept, the science behind it may nevertheless carry interesting implications. First, since Christian theologians have traditionally viewed man as naturally religious, CSR offers new material for theological considerations. Second, it may also help us make predictions about the future of religion. Third, it has been argued that the naturalness thesis offers support for freedom of religion.

Catherine Keller’s constructive theology includes an original and very interesting combination of process theology, feminist theology and negative theology. This combination culminates in the articulation of an “apophatic panentheism” that is urgent for its accentuation of connectivity and interdependency in our global world. In this article, Keller’s apophatic panentheism is clarified on the basis of her major works on the relational self, creation, apocalyptic patterns of thought, and negative theology.

Zusammenfassung „Faktizität“ bezeichnet in der Fundamentaltheologie der Systematischen Theologie von Eilert Herms das zu-verstehen Gegebensein von etwas, das sich kategorial vom zu-verstehen Gegebenen (Faktum) unterscheidet. Herms erweitert hier eine Einsicht des „schlechthinigen Abhängigkeitsgefühls“ Friedrich Schleiermachers. Obwohl diese Erweiterung eine wichtige Entdeckung für die Fundamentaltheologie darstellt, wird der Begriff der Faktizität bei Herms mit Bedeutungen überfrachtet. Der Beitrag zeigt, dass theologische Topoi, die Herms zu Implikationen der Faktizität erhebt, anderen Momenten der Gotteserfahrung zuzuschreiben sind, um Kategoriefehlern zu vermeiden.

Zusammenfassung Der menschliche Körper ist auffällig mit der Aufforderung zur Veränderung und Überschreitung eines vorgefundenen Zustands verbunden. Die Plastizität des Körpers erlaubt dabei ein gehöriges Quantum Transition. Der Transhumanismus, eine neuere philosophisch-naturwissenschaftliche Bewegung, antwortet entsprechend auf die Grundfrage der Anthropologie mit dem Hinweis auf diese Überschreitungspotentiale und auf die Grundfrage der Ethik mit einem Imperativ zur akzelerierten technischen Verbesserung menschlicher Körper. Auf die Frage nach der Methode antwortet der Transhumanismus unter anderem mit Verweis auf Nanotechnologien und die Vorstellung nanokleiner Werkzeuge, mit deren Hilfe die Materie auf Zellebene kontrolliert werden soll. Zwar ist das Thema Transhumanismus in der theologischen Debatte bisher wenig vorgekommen, allerdings werden einzelne Aspekte transhumaner Visionen diskutiert. Einige aktuelle theologische Stellungnahmen, überwiegend katholischer Provenienz, immunisieren sich gegen ein konstruktives Gespräch mit dem Transhumanismus, in dem Ketzerhüter verteilt und invasive Körpermodifikationen als Neuauflage klassischer Häresien aufgefasst werden. In komparativer Perspektive ist aber ein Zugang innerhalb der Theologie denkbar, der zwar nicht jede invasive Körpermodifikation vorschnell begrüßen, aber auch nicht exorzieren muss. Die Hoffnung auf Fortschritt animiert einen Konnex zwischen Theologie und Transhumanismus, wobei auch erhebliche technische Modifikationen dazu beitragen könnten, menschliche Körper-Wünsche nicht allein auf eine gedachte Zukunft bei Gott zu beziehen.
