Kurzfassung Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick zu den bruchmechanischen Prüfmethoden bei statischer, dynamischer und zyklischer Beanspruchung. Die prinzipielle Vorgehensweise bei der experimentellen Ermittlung der entsprechenden bruchmechanischen Kennwerte wird erläutert. Auf die zurzeit aktuellen Prüfstandards wird aufmerksam gemacht. Die Kennwertermittlung wird am Beispiel spezieller Werkstoffe demonstriert. Auf bestehende Korrelationen zwischen den bruchmechanischen und den konventionellen mechanischen Kennwerten wird hingewiesen. Die Auswertung des Schrifttums erfolgt unter Hinweis auf spezielle, außerhalb der Prüfstandards zum Einsatz kommende Prüfmethoden und auf Beispiele für die geforderte und erfolgreich praktizierte bruchmechanische Bauteilbewertung.

The current investigations are focussed on high-speed passenger-traffic and commercial-freight transportation railway wheel and tyre steels, which were provided by a system supplier of the DB AG in technically relevant heat treatment conditions. As a consequence of the industrial heat treatment, microstructural gradients emerge in the rim of monobloc wheels and tyres, leading to a local-dependence of the fatigue behaviour. Fatigue specimens, representing the local microstructure were machined from defined depth-positions. The fatigue behaviour at ambient temperature and elevated service temperatures was assessed by mechanical stress-strain hysteresis and electrical resistance measurements. The local microstructure influences the fatigue behaviour in a characteristic manner.

Kurzfassung Für die Berechnung des Crashverhaltens von Fahrzeugstrukturen muss zusätzlich zur Dehnratenabhängigkeit des plastischen Verformungsverhaltens des Grundwerkstoffs auch das Verhalten von Fügestellen bei hoher Beanspruchungsgeschwindigkeit bestimmt werden. Ziel der VDEh-Arbeitsgruppe „Hochgeschwindigkeitszugversuche an gefügten Stählen‟ war die Erstellung eines Stahl-Eisen-Prüfblattes (SEP) zur Ermittlung crashrelevanter Kennwerte für gefügte Stahl-Feinbleche unter vereinheitlichten Prüfbedingungen. Zur Erarbeitung der in dieser Richtlinie zu formulierenden Empfehlungen wurden Scherzugversuche bei hoher Geschwindigkeit an punktgeschweißten und lasergeschweißten Proben von elf Prüflaboratorien durchgeführt. Der Beitrag beschreibt die Ergebnisse dieses Ringversuchs und seine Auswirkungen auf das SEP.

Kurzfassung Viele Stähle weisen eine positive Dehnratenabhängigkeit auf, d.h., mit zunehmender Dehnrate steigt die Fließspannung an. Dies wird zum Beispiel bei der Beurteilung der Crashsicherheit von Fahrzeugstrukturen, die in der Automobilindustrie zunehmend mittels numerischer Methoden erfolgt, berücksichtigt. Zur Kennwertermittlung werden heute in Industrie und Forschung unterschiedliche Prüfsysteme eingesetzt. Der vorliegende Beitrag informiert einerseits über den Stand der Prüftechnik, behandelt aber auch den Status und den Fortgang aktueller Normungsvorhaben. Ergänzend wird ein Überblick über die Einbindung dieser technisch anspruchsvollen Prüftechnik in den Werkstofffreigabeprozess bei der Entwicklung neuer Stähle im Automobilbau gegeben.

Kurzfassung Anhand von Beispielen wird ein erfahrungsgestützter Überblick zum Einsatz berührungsloser optischer Messverfahren zur experimentellen Analyse von Werkstoffen und Bauteilen aus Kunststoffen gegeben.

Kurzfassung Nach der Beschreibung des Metall-Ultraschallschweißverfahrens am Beispiel eines Metall/CFK-Verbunds aus einer Aluminiumlegierung (AlMg3) mit einem kohlenstofffaserverstärkten Polyamid (CF-PA66) werden vollflächige Dehnungsanalysen der gefügten einschnittigen Überlappverbindung bei unterschiedlichen äußeren mechanischen Belastungen aufgezeigt. Diese experimentellen Verformungsanalysen dienen dazu, die Verfahrensparameter des Fügeprozesses zu optimieren sowie die Finite-Elemente-Simulation mit der Realität abzugleichen. Des Weiteren werden die Einflüsse von Fehlstellen auf das Verformungsverhalten der Verbindung bei äußerer Belastung angesprochen.

Kurzfassung Untersuchungen an geschmiedeten Bauteilen aus der Legierung AlSi1MgMn (AA6082) zeigen, dass ein Bleigehalt, der geringfügig über der zulässigen Toleranz von 500 ppm liegt, unter Langzeitbeanspruchung bereits bei Raumtemperatur und quasistatischer Belastung zu einem spröden Bruchverhalten und zu einer deutlichen Begrenzung der Lebensdauer führt. Dieses führt zu der Schlussfolgerung, dass die üblichen Qualifikations- und Abnahmeprüfungen im Kurzzeitbereich (Zugversuche und Bauteilprüfungen) nicht ausreichend sind, wenn der Werkstoff geringe Mengen an Blei enthält, auch wenn diese im Bereich der Zulässigkeitsgrenze liegen.

The effectiveness of a friction stir welded joint is strongly dependent on several process parameters such as the tool geometry, including the height and the shape of the pin and the shoulder surface of the tool. In this study, two pin parameters, namely the pitch dimension (1.25 and 0.75 mm) and the helix angle (right and left helices), are varied in order to study their influence on the micro-structural, hardness, and tensile properties of friction stir welded 6 mm thick aluminum alloy 7075. The results reveal that the best combination has been obtained when welding with a pitch dimension of 0.75 mm using a right helix pin.

Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) are miniaturized devices that consist of both mechanical and electrical parts. Compliant mechanisms have made an enormous contribution in the design process of various fields such as adaptive structures, hand-held tools, components in transportations, electronics and medical tools. The use of compliant mechanisms will help in reducing the number of components, as a result decreasing manufacturing cost and increasing the performance. The topology optimization methods search for an ideal material distribution of a structure. In this investigation, a new two-dimensional micro-grippers compliant mechanism, which can realize a straight-line path and parallel movement arms, are developed. Material models, which parameterize stiffness and density properties, are implemented based on the well-known solid isotropic materials with penalization model. Optimality criteria method is applied as the optimization algorithm using the ANSYS package. The micro-grippers with compliant mechanism can be applied to targets with a diameter of up to 400 μm.

Among the most important elements in aircraft structures are joints for transferring loads. An accurate assessment of the stresses for joints is essential for reliable strength evaluation and failure prediction. The aim of this work is to compare different types of materials, i.e. isotropic, laminated, and functionally graded materials (FGM), and different types of laminates, considering the ratio of stresses generated around a hole in a plate and the applied stress. The finite element method (FEM) is used to evaluate the stresses around a hole for the three types of materials when the plate is subjected to tensile stress, heating, and both heating and tensile stress. Utilizing the ANSYS package, the target of the study was to investigate the validity of the method. The results obtained for the laminated plate are compared to those obtained by E. Pan, and Rybiki & Hopper for both (90/0)s and (—45/45)s laminates. By similar results, it was shown that the laminates can withstand loads better than isotropic materials or FGM.

The low cycle fatigue behaviour of the T91 martensitic steel is studied in the range Δε t from 0.4% to 2.4%, at 300°C, in air and in liquid Lead Bismuth Eutectic (LBE). It is shown that the cyclic stress response consists of a cyclic softening that is not modified by the environment. However, the fatigue life is reduced after fatigue in LBE as compared to air and the effect is especially marked at high strain range. Metallographic analysis of the external surfaces and of transverse cross sections of specimen show that the short crack density is very low in the specimen failed in liquid metal while it is high for tests in air. Fracture surface observations show that multiple crack initiations occurred in air. In liquid metal, the fracture surfaces were flat and contained widely spaced fatigue striations. Strain localization promoted by the liquid metal is responsible for the decrease in fatigue resistance.

Fatigue tests were performed on ferritic bainitic steel notched specimens (Kt = 2.5) under load controlled constant amplitude loading. These tests show that under constant amplitude tension compression loading, periodical overloads application have a detrimental effect on the fatigue crack initiation strength for fully reversed load ratio (R σ = −1), while they have no influence under pulsating loading (R σ = 0). A finite element analysis shows that in the fully reversed tension (R σ = −1), the stabilized cyclic behaviour at the notch root is an elastic-plastic shakedown while elastic shakedown is obtained under pulsated regime (R σ = 0), so that we can consider that the local cyclic behaviour has an influence on the overload effect. However, the overload application does not imply a remarkable modification of the stress and strain field under the subsequent constant amplitude loading and can not explain such a fatigue strength decrease in fully reversed tension.

The determination of magnetic distortion fields caused by inclusions hidden in a conductive matrix using homogeneous current flow needs to be addressed in multiple tasks of electromagnetic non-destructive testing and materials science. This includes a series of testing problems such as the detection of tantalum inclusions hidden in niobium plates, metal inclusion in a nonmetallic base material or porosity in aluminum laser welds. Unfortunately, easy tools for an estimation of the defect response fields above the sample using pertinent detection concepts are still missing. In this study the Finite Element Method (FEM) was used for modeling spherically shaped defects, and an analytical expression was developed for the strength of the response field including the conductivity of the defect and matrix, the sensor-to-inclusion separation, and the defect size. Finally, the results were adapted to Eddy Current Testing problems, in which the skin effect was taken into consideration for an appropriate estimation of the signal strength.

Kurzfassung Über die in der Technik weit verbreitete typisierte Harnstoffformmasse UF 131.5, ein Aminoplast, wird berichtet, dass sie im Zuge der thermisch aktivierten Vernetzungsreaktion wegen „Überhärtung‟ mangelhafte Eigenschaften annimmt. Zur Verifizierung dieses Effektes werden mithilfe der Ultraschall-Prozesskontrolle gezielt Proben unterschiedlicher Aushärtegrade hergestellt. Sie werden mit verschiedenen Methoden, wie der „Kochprobe‟ und der Thermoanalyse, charakterisiert und auf ihre Materialeigenschaften untersucht. Dabei zeigt sich ein deutlicher Einfluss der Härtezeit auf die Glasübergangstemperatur der Formmasse. In den mechanischen Eigenschaften ist eine Veränderung allerdings nur in der Schlagzähigkeit festzustellen, die sich mit steigender Härtezeit sogar wesentlich verbessert.
