We prove that the well-known axiomatic system of MV-algebras is not independent. The axiom of commutativity can be deleted and the remaining axioms are shown to be independent.

Let A be a lattice-ordered group, B a generalized Boolean algebra. The Boolean extension A B of A has been investigated in the literature; we will refer to A B as a generalized Specker lattice-ordered group (namely, if A is the linearly ordered group of all integers, then A B is a Specker lattice-ordered group). The paper establishes that some distributivity laws extend from A B to both A and B, and (under certain circumstances) also conversely.

Weak relatively uniform convergences (wru-convergences, for short) in lattice ordered groups have been investigated in previous authors’ papers. In the present article, the analogous notion for MV-algebras is studied. The system s(A) of all wru-convergences on an MV-algebra A is considered; this system is partially ordered in a natural way. Assuming that the MV-algebra A is divisible, we prove that s(A) is a Brouwerian lattice and that there exists an isomorphism of s(A) into the system s(G) of all wru-convergences on the lattice ordered group G corresponding to the MV-algebra A. Under the assumption that the MV-algebra A is archimedean and divisible, we investigate atoms and dual atoms in the system s(A).

In this paper we introduce for an arbitrary algebra (groupoid, binary system) (X; *) a sequence of algebras (X; *)n = (X; ∘), where x ∘ y = [x * y]n = x * [x * y]n−1, [x * y]0 = y. For several classes of examples we study the cycloidal index (m, n) of (X; *), where (X; *)m = (X; *)n for m > n and m is minimal with this property. We show that (X; *) satisfies the left cancellation law, then if (X; *)m = (X; *)n, then also (X; *)m−n = (X; *)0, the right zero semigroup. Finite algebras are shown to have cycloidal indices (as expected). B-algebras are considered in greater detail. For commutative rings R with identity, x * y = ax + by + c, a, b, c ∈ ℝ defines a linear product and for such linear products the commutativity condition [x * y]n = [y * x]n is observed to be related to the golden section, the classical one obtained for ℝ, the real numbers, n = 2 and a = 1 as the coefficient b.

In this paper we prove that if S is a commutative semigroup acting on an ordered groupoid G, then there exists a commutative semigroup S̃ acting on the ordered groupoid G̃:=(G × S)/ρ̄ in such a way that G is embedded in G̃. Moreover, we prove that if a commutative semigroup S acts on an ordered groupoid G, and a commutative semigroup S̄ acts on an ordered groupoid Ḡ in such a way that G is embedded in S̄, then the ordered groupoid G̃ can be also embedded in Ḡ. We denote by ρ̄ the equivalence relation on G × S which is the intersection of the quasi-order ρ (on G × S) and its inverse ρ −1.

We consider certain extension of the Stickelberger ideal of the compositum of a bicyclic field and a quadratic imaginary field, obtained by adding new annihilators to the Stickelberger ideal. We compute the index of this extension, from which we get some divisibility properties for the relative class number of the compositum.

In this paper, the properties of transformation matrices between the normal bases in orders of algebraic number fields of degree 3 are shown.

Let x 1 and x 2 be integers divisible only by some fixed primes. Is it possible that x 1+x 2 is a perfect power? Special cases of the equation x 1+x 2 = y k were formerly considered over ℤ. In this paper we develop an algorithm to solve this equation over global algebraic function fields. Our method is illustrated by two explicit examples.

The object of the present paper is to derive certain property of meromorphically multivalent functions with missing coefficients.

The Cauchy-type integral having a Lipschitz-continuous density is under investigation. It is considered in a Jordan region that has a piecewise regular boundary without cusps and therefore it can be continuously extended over the closure of the region. Then the boundary values form a function, whose modulus of continuity is to be estimated. One parameter-dependent estimate is obtained and one algorithm for its evaluating is developed. The algorithm is demonstrated on some examples.

Comparison principles play an important role in the qualitative and quantitative study of differential equations. In this paper, we investigate a first order functional differential equations with impulses and establish new comparison results.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the oscillation of the second-order neutral differential equations of the form (E)$$ (r(t)|z'(t)|^{\alpha - 1} z'(t))' + q(t)|x(\sigma (t))|^{\alpha - 1} x(\sigma (t)) = 0, $$ where z(t) = x(t) + p(t)x(τ(t)). The obtained comparison principles essentially simplify the examination of the studied equations. Further, our results extend and improve the results in the literature.

We study the Hausdorff dimension of the intersection between local stable manifolds and the respective basic sets of a class of hyperbolic polynomial endomorphisms on the complex projective space ℙ2. We consider the perturbation (z 2 +ɛz +bɛw 2, w 2) of (z 2, w 2) and we prove that, for b sufficiently small, it is injective on its basic set Λɛ close to Λ:= {0} × S 1. Moreover we give very precise upper and lower estimates for the Hausdorff dimension of the intersection between local stable manifolds and Λɛ, in the case of these maps.

This study looks at some subgroups of the group H(C(X)) of homeomorphisms on the space C(X) of continuous real-valued functions on a topological space X, where C(X) has the compact-open topology. The main result shows that, for certain spaces X, the subgroup of H(C(X)) generated by the algebraic and vertical homeomorphisms on C(X) is dense in H(C(X)) with the pointwise topology. Also, for X equal to the unit interval, a subgroup of H(C(X)) is developed using integration of the members of C(X), and this subgroup is used as an example and to illustrate certain properties that subgroups of H(C(X)) can have.

A new construction of mixed Poisson processes with prescribed distributions for their claim interarrival times is given. As a consequence, some concrete examples of constructing such processes useful for applications are presented and the corresponding disintegrating and claim measures are computed.

In this work, we consider the existence of nonoscillatory solutions of variable coefficient higher order linear neutral differential equations with distributed deviating arguments. We use the Banach contraction principle to obtain new sufficient conditions, which are weaker than those known, for the existence of nonoscillatory solutions.
