Source of material
All chemicals were purchased from commercial sources and used without further purification. To a mixture of triphenylmethylstannane (10 g, 0.0274 mol), ether (90 mL) and hydrochloric acid (6 M, 30 mL) were stirred, and cooled to 0 °C. At the end of the reaction, the solvent was separated. The ether layer was washed with NaHCO3 solution and saturated NaCl solution, respectively, dried with anhydrous sodium sulphate, filtered by extraction, most of the solvent was removed by rotary evaporation. Finally, the title crystal was obtained after a few days.
Experimental details
All H-atoms bonded to C atoms were placed geometrically and refined using a riding model with common isotropic displacement factors Uiso(H) = 1.2 or 1.5 Ueq (parent C-atom).
Comment
Organotin compounds have wide applications in industry, agriculture, biomedicine, and other fields [5], [6], [7]. However, alkyltin chloride is an important raw material for the synthesis of organotin compounds, and one of the available methods for the synthesis of alkyltin chloride is through the reaction of tetraalkyltin compounds with hydrochloric acid [8].
The Ortep diagram is presented in the figure. Interestingly, there are two complex molecules in title structure: a mononuclear complex and a tetranuclear complex. In the latter one there is a planar Sn2O2 four membered ring, and the center of the four membered ring is the inversion center of the whole molecule. According to their different coordination environments, the four tin atoms can be divided into two types: the endocyclic tin (Sn2 and Sn2 i ) and the exocyclic tin (Sn3 and Sn3 i ). The endocyclic and exocyclic tin atoms are connected by the μ3-oxygen atoms (O1 and O1 i ) and the μ2-chlorine atoms (Cl2 and Cl2 i ). The bond length of Sn3–Cl2 and Sn2–Cl2 are 2.6525(14) and 2.8585(12) Å, respectively, which is similar to the literature [9], [10], [11], [12], [13].
