Abstract
C34H26N6Ni2O8, monoclinic, P21/n (no. 14), a = 12.4072(8) Å, b = 13.5186(10) Å, c = 19.4750(14) Å, β = 92.902(2)°, V = 3262.3(4) Å3, Z = 4, R gt (F) = 0.0304, wR ref (F 2) = 0.0809, T = 223 K.
A part of the polymeric title crystal structure is shown in Figure. Table 1 contains crystallographic data and Table 2 contains the list of the atoms including atomic coordinates and displacement parameters.

Source of materials
The suspension of Ni(acac)2 (acac = acetylacetonate; 3.0153 g, 11.737 mmol) and pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2.9045 g, 23.593 mmol) in acetone (50 mL) and EtOH (10 mL) was refluxed for 2 h. The formed precipitate was separated by filtration, washed with EtOH and acetone, and dried at 50 °C, to give a pale blue powder (3.3673 g). Crystals were obtained by slow evaporation from a pyridine/N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution at 60 °C.
Experimental details
Hydrogen atoms were positioned geometrically and allowed to ride on their parent atoms with d(C–H) = 0.94 Å and U iso(H) = 1.2U eq(C) with the help of the SHELXL program (AFIX 43 options) [2]. The highest peak (1.00 e Å−3) and the deepest hole (−0.41 e Å−3) in the difference Fourier map are located 0.44 Å and 0.52 Å from the atoms H33 and C30, respectively.
Comment
The crystal structures of the related pic–Ni(II) complexes [Ni(pic)2(urea)2]·2urea·H2O (pic = pyridine-2-carboxylate) [5] and [Ni(pic)2(H2O)2]·2H2O [6] have been determined previously.
The title complex exhibits an one-dimensional pic-bridged chain structure along the [101] direction [4], in which Ni(pic)2 and Ni(pyridine)2 units are connected by two trans-pic anionic ligands (see the Figure). In the complex, each Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated in a distorted octahedral environment: one Ni ion (Ni1) is coordinated by two N and four O atoms of the four pic ligands and the other Ni ions (Ni2, Ni3) are coordinated by four N and two O atoms from two pyridine molecules and two bridging pic ligands. The Ni2 and Ni3 atoms are located on the inversion center. The Ni–N and Ni–O bond lengths are almost equal with d(Ni–N) = 2.0382(17)–2.124(2) Å and d(Ni–O) = 2.0318(16)–2.0505(14) Å. In the crystal structure, numerous intra- and intermolecular π–π interactions between adjacent pyridine rings are present. For Cg1 (the centroid of ring N4–C23) and Cg2 i (the centroid of ring N6–C34; symmetry code i: 1 − x, 1/2 + y, 1/2 − z), the centroid-centroid distance is 3.8461(3) Å [4]. In addition, the complex exhibits weak intermolecular C–H⋯O hydrogen bonds with distances of 3.0847(2)–3.4368(3) Å between the donor and acceptor atoms, to stabilize the crystal structure [4].
