Abstract

The article is divided into two parts. In an overview, selected theories are reviewed that have discussed the connection between language history and cultural history in a general perspective. This review of the ‘major lines’ is followed by the presentation of another research approach in the second part of this article. I think it would be useful to investigate the interaction of language and culture in small steps – applied to the age of ‘Konfessionalisierung’. The thesis is: Confessional orientation leads to typical language choices. As can be learned from several recent approaches, an interesting interaction between the use of certain spellings and confessionally imprinted culture can be noticed in Early Modern Times.
