Abstract

Horst Stobbe is repeatedly mentioned in research on book culture in the publishing city of Munich around 1900. As a bookseller, publisher and bibliophile, he was active in Munich from 1906 until his death in 1974, in particular with his »Bücherstube« but also as the author of numerous informative antiquarian catalogues on figures and networks of literary modernism and as a central member of Munich’s bibliophile scene. However, there have been no scholarly contributions to date that take a look at his entire oeuvre, as well as his own sparsely documented activities during the National Socialist era. This article addresses this gap by analysing Stobbe’s estate at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, including sources preserved in other archives.
