Ein Kapitel aus dem Buch Cosmos and Creation

Abstract

One of the themes dearest to Ben Sira is creation and, more specifically, creation in relation to theodicy. Sir 33:7-15 is a little treatise on the binary structure of creation for which the problem of theodicy provides the background. Rather than focusing on the textual criticism or the history of the interpretation of the text, we shall concentrate on the concept of opposites or complementary pairs in creation. After providing a translation of the Hebrew text with some notes, we shall proceed with a study of the literary composition of the passage and focus our attention on its central theme, i.e., the polarities in creation.
