Antikenrezeption im akademischen Aktstudium
-
Susanne Müller-Bechtel
Abstract
The article focuses on the transformative potential of the artistic task academic nude. The protagonists are Spanish and German professors and students at the Accademia del Nudo in Rome between about 1750 and 1800. Based on selected case studies, the article separates the numerous transformative processes in the reception of antiquity during drawing academic nudes step by step. The observed complexity is compounded by the fact that, as a further level of reception, not only the antique sculptures as such were a reference for the artists, but also the new masters who confirm the status of the chosen model to be a reference. Their complexity makes the often-tried identification of only a single reference difficult. The figures of the transformative can be recognized in the personnel of the setting (the draftsmen and the nude models) and in the media (the drawn academic nudes and the ancient sculptures as their models)
