Abstract

“Narrated Science - on the Potential of Myth.” The paper investigates the connection between myth and (theory of) science with a focus on contemporary popular science and global myths in ancient philosophy, whereas it is neutral with respect to the thesis that much of science is itself inherently narrative (Morgan et al. 2022). It warns against what may be called a literary fallacy from common mythological structure to the epistemological equivalence of content: It is true that good popular science writing today is good mythology. Conversely, Schrempp (2014) is right to read Lucretius as a genius of popular science writing. However, not any mythology is, qua mythology, as good as any other in every respect.
