This chapter is in the book Cosmos and Creation

Abstract

The Hymn of Praise to the Creator and his creation is available in Hebrew in two manuscripts, B and M. The first part 42:15-25 is a theological discourse about the Creator, who needs no counsellor. Wisdom, created before all things, is only part of creation. All God’s works are useful and nothing is made in vain. Ben Sira occupies a unique position in the wisdom tradition of Israel and in post-exilic biblical literature. He is critical of opponents with an apocalyptic view based on heavenly revelations.
